Process
The day of the ceremony Nicole arrives 2 hours early to set up, and sketch in the background. She then creates the entire painting from start to finish on site. She works from life and observation for the entire painting. She works with the bride and groom to determine what will be featured in the painting. Together they will decide on a special moment such as the couple at the altar, cutting the cake, first dance or another significant moment to be the focal point. Nicole will snap a photo of the bride and groom in this position in order to get more detail for their depiction. Upon request, Nicole will include recognizable guests in the crowd.
What sets Nicole apart?
Nicole paints with a unique distinct style. Her paintings feature thick oil paint, expressive brush strokes, and strong use of color and light. She is heavily influenced by abstract expressionism and impressionism (specifically the Bay Area Figure Movement). Nicole stays away from fussy detail and captures the feeling of the night in the painting as a whole.
Performance
Nicole understands that live wedding painting is also a performance! She is warm and inviting. She welcomes questions, comments and general chatting while she paints, usually making friends with many guests. Kids are typically mesmerized by the process. She has been known to let the kids have a go and add a couple brush strokes!
What can I expect?
The end result of this performance is a beautiful work of art you can treasure in your home. Nicole’s wedding paintings are timeless and archival. Nicole will bring the painting back to her studio at the end of the night. As the oil paint needs to dry and set, you can expect about a 4-6 week wait to pick up your painting. The finished painting will come wired, ready to hang. The sides will be painted in a gallery wrap style (painting continued around the edges) unless otherwise specified.
Cost
Nicole offers a range of sizes and prices for her Live Wedding Paintings. The cost includes a gallery-wrapped canvas, all materials needed to create the painting, the artist’s time and presence at the venue. Please inquire through the form below and she will send you a pricing guide. You can expect to pay extra for travel outside of South Louisiana and Shipping. You can expect to pay anywhere from $1,800- $3,500 for a live wedding painting depending on the location of the wedding and the size you choose.
